My drawings are inspired by the dignity and beauty of birds particularly of those who are our most common and familiar.

I'm fascinated by their fragility and resilience, especially at a time when their very existence is challenged, as well as their uniqueness and individualism. My aim is to convey something of their strength and determined nature through charcoal. Equally, the drawings are informed and lead by the charcoal itself. Charcoal is a wonderfully receptive and immediate drawing tool and a joy to work with. It can be moved and moulded, removed and reapplied and informs the sense and feeling of the drawing as it emerges and inspires new marks and shapes with each new artwork.
